Dragon’s Lair is Finished!!! What's in Store for the Coming Year?

Our first big project at Mason School !!!  Dragon’s Lair is a room envisioned by Mason School Counselor Angie Krieger as a “chill” room where she could work more privately with individual children and in groups, a place where children could take it easy and settle down, facilitating whatever skill or emotion on which Angie was working.  When putting on the final touches someone said “This room just makes me happy.”

Putting together Dragon’s Lair was truly a community effort on the part of KUMC.  The Vision Team of Cathy Poe, Jane McDowell, Pat Krieger, Shirley Higgins and Heidi Hays met in October with Angie to plan.  Shirley Higgins got us started with painting the base coat on the walls and the transformation began!  Jane envisioned, drew and worked with painters to create the wonderful murals on all the walls.  The children of Mason were so excited to come by each day during the painting to see what new things were added!  Pat Krieger worked with her wonderful group of seamstresses to create curtains for the room and a dozen or so floor pillows for the children to sit on.  A special thanks goes to the Advent Sunday School class who collected the majority of the supplies and games for the room.  Another special thanks goes to Bob Adelsberger and David Singer of Warehouse of Fixtures who together donated most of the furniture for the room.  Many others were involved by repairing the walls, painting the base coat and murals, hanging the drapes, making quilts, games and crocheting a lap blanket, picking up and delivering the furniture, donating and painting a rocking chair, adding plants and puppets, and putting the final touches on the room to make it special.  The most important thing however was the way the staff and children of Mason have felt special and loved through this project.

A special thank you from Service Mission Team to each of you for your help in putting together this special room at Mason School!  You can see from the pictures it will be a wonderful place for the children of Mason!!!
